perhaps, and avocation

to really

hear

beyond sound or even

understanding

but responding,

atonement is

to overcome the distance

lying between

separate selves—

            it is no sacrifice

            but awakening

a door thrown open

arms quickening to receive

these sometimes gifts

laid bare

and to our hearts
